Pop Pop Poperinge
May 14, 2011
Once again we were on the move… We woke up quite early and Louis drove us to Amsterdam for another visit. We walked around the outer ring till we got to the Rijksmuseum which holds a collection of masterworks from famous Dutch artists – Vermeer, Rembrandt, Hals, etc… ( no photos allowed unfortunately.) It was nice to see the pieces again, especially Rembrandt’s “Night Watch”.
After leaving Amsterdam, we headed towards Poperinge, a small dorf of about 20,000 people. It is located only 15km away from Ieper where the western front saw its peak in WWI. I wanted to take Josh and Trans to the museum and memorial there but aparently it is closed for renevations.
We had to rush to get ready after hitting traffic in Antwerp and went out to a wonderful place to eat in the city square. Once again, I ordered their specialty – river eel in paprika sauce.
We were invited as VIPs with Louis to an alcohol release party. A family friend of his created a new cocktail and there was a fancy party to celebrate and, sure enough, celebrate we did!
Wind – powering the future…
